Half-way point for Cumbria’s Stoptober challengers

Health experts in Cumbria are congratulating and encouraging smokers who have reached the half-way point of the national Stoptober challenge to keep on going.

Stoptober is a 28 day challenge for smokers from the Department of Health to do without their tobacco for October. Cumbria has an estimated 87,900 smokers.

Su Sear, Public Health Partnership Specialist for NHS Cumbria said: “We have to congratulate those local smokers who have reached the half way point in the biggest mass quit attempt taking place in England.

“It has been interesting talking to people taking part in the challenge as many of them are putting the money they have saved by not buying cigarettes for a special event at the end of October. Having something to look forward to will help those taking part to successfully completed Stoptober.

“Another tip is to keep busy and find a different daily routine.

“The main thing is you have proved you can do it, getting half-way through the month and the Stoptober challenge without using tobacco.

"If you haven't signed up to the challenge yet, it's not too late to join in, or set your own 28-day challenge.”

The campaign offers smokers a free online support via the Stoptober website, Stoptober app, Facebook page and you can get motivational text messages.
