The main commissioners of NHS health services in Cumbria are meeting in Copeland this month - continuing their tour of the county.

NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), a membership organisation made up of all family doctors in Cumbria, will be holding their governing body meeting at Cleator Moor Civic and Masonic Centre on Thursday, August 15.

The decision to hold meetings in venues across Cumbria was made by the group to give the public more opportunity to attend and get involved.

The Copeland meeting is the second to be held following the decision, the first was held in Barrow in June.

Upcoming meetings will be held in:

• Carlisle on October 17

• Eden on December 19

• Allerdale on February 20, 2014

• South Lakeland on April 17, 2014

Details of venues and agendas will be available on NHS Cumbria CCG’s website prior to the meetings www.cumbriaccg.nhs.uk/news/events| .

Deputy Chair of NHS Cumbria CCG and Lead GP for Copeland, Dr David Rogers said: “I’m a great believer in public involvement and engagement. As a CCG we are going to be work differently because we are a membership organisation and our priority is to make sure services across Cumbria are patient focused.

“When deciding which services should go where and how they should operate, we are looking at the needs of the local population and how existing NHS services are operating.

“Clinicians in Cumbria have always been passionate about and championed the importance of the involvement of patients in decision making and service re-design.

“Holding our Governing Body meetings in venues across the localities gives people more opportunity to get involved in the health decision-making in Cumbria.”

The Copeland meeting will be held at Cleator Moor Civic and Masonic Centre, 2 Market Square, Cleator Moor, CA25 5AR on Thursday, August 15 starting at 2pm.
