Refreshments are helping raise thousands of pounds for patients in South Cumbria – as volunteers will be presenting a cheque for £5,600 to their health care centre.

The WRVS runs the coffee shop at Ulverston Health Centre and all profits from the service are in aid of the centre for the benefit of patients, particularly the elderly and vulnerable.

Ulverston Health Centre Practice Manager, Jane Tudor said: “The WRVS has kindly agreed to fund various things including some new seating and tables. Additionally, they will also be helping to fund some medical equipment we wouldn't normally use but which will benefit vulnerable and elderly patients.

“We would like to thank the WRVS and all their volunteers for this donation and also for providing the great service with the coffee shop.”

Alan Heath, acting manager of the Health Centre coffee shop said: “The volunteers who run the coffee shop provide not only a vital service for patients, offering a range of refreshments but also help raise funds to support their local health centre. The presentation of this latest cheque was the perfect opportunity to thank those who have given service to the local community via WRVS.” He added "the service is run entirely by unpaid volunteers, and new volunteers are always sought. Anyone interested in contributing can contact Alan on 01229 586115".

Alongside the presentation of the cheque, WRVS will also be presenting long service awards to volunteers who work at the tea bar.
