Morecambe Bay Investigation

The Morecambe Bay Investigation was set up to examine the historic standard of care received by mothers and babies in the maternity and neonatal service at UHMBT and in any hospital they were transferred to, between 1 January 2004 and 30 June 2013.

The Investigation was established in September 2013 by the Secretary of State for Health after concerns were raised by families following a number of tragic deaths and serious incidents during that time. It is independently chaired by Dr Bill Kirkup who has been previously involved in the Hillsborough Independent Panel and the Savile Inquiry. Dr Kirkup is supported in his work by a Panel of eight experts in the fields of obstetrics, midwifery, paediatrics, nursing, ethics and clinical governance.
