An exciting opportunity is available for the appropriate person to influence and shape the design of mental health services in Cumbria over the next five years. The newly established multi-agency Cumbria Mental Health Partnership Group (MHPG) is now seeking a Vice Chair.

NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is inviting applications from people who have had lived experience of mental health services or have cared for someone who has had lived experience of mental health services. Although the successful applicant will receive the full support from all members of the MHPG, they should also have had experience of working in a multi-agency environment with the ability and passion to help improve and redesign mental health services over the next five years.

The time commitment for the Vice Chair would be to attend regular meetings held every two months and any extraordinary meetings that will be held when required. The post is voluntary and all travel expenses will be reimbursed.

The purpose of the MHPG is to oversee the delivery and development of the Cumbria Mental Health Strategy and ensure national policies and best practices are delivered across all mental health services for the people of Cumbria. The group would be tasked with identifying priorities for improvement, commission task and finish groups to undertake agreed pieces of work and ensure six monthly reports are available to update all members on progress and highlight any areas of concern. The group will also provide users of services, carers and families with a voice and ensure that they will be listened to.

Dr David Rogers, Medical Director at NHS Cumbria CCG and Chair of MHPG, said: “This is an exciting and interesting opportunity for someone who is passionate about ensuring that the people of Cumbria have a robust mental health service. The Vice Chair is a rewarding role that will see MHPG oversee the delivery of the Cumbria Mental Health Strategy and ensure all providers deliver high quality, person centred therapeutic services.”

Anyone interested in applying for the role of Vice Chair for the Cumbria Mental Health Partnership Group or would like to discuss the role should in the first instance contact either Dr David Rogers, Chair of the MHPG and Medical Director, NHS Cumbria CCG or Laura Carr, Member of the MHPG and Clinical Director (Mental Health and learning Disability) and Lead Nurse, NHS Cumbria CCG by telephoning 01768 245 486. The closing date for applications is Saturday 31 January 2015.

MHPG held its first meeting on 4 November 2014 and then a second meeting was held on 6 January 2015. The next meeting will be in March 2015 with the exact date to be confirmed.
