New Chairwoman for Cumbria's Out of Hours Doctors Service

Cumbria’s Out of Hours Doctors (CHoC) Service has a new chairwoman.

Professor Shirley Reveley, who has trained nurses in the county and for the Open University, took up her new role on April 1 2016.

She has been a Non-Executive Director of the CHoC Board for three years and has a nursing and governance background, she is also a member of the CHoC Clinical Governance Committee.

Professor Reveley said: “I am really looking forward to my new role as Chair of Cumbria Health on Call, a successful organisation that I hold in very high esteem.”

A registered adult nurse and nurse teacher, Professor Revely has worked in a variety of clinical roles across the north of England, including midwifery and health visiting. She has taught nurses since the 1980s in Carlisle and Lancaster and at the Open University.

Since her retirement as Dean in the Faculty of Health and Social Care at the OU she has held posts as a Non-Executive Director at Cumbria Teaching PCT and at North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust. Currently she is a Trustee at Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland and Clinical Supervisor to Nurse Practitioners at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.Professor Reveley holds a PhD in Primary Health Care from Lancaster University focussing on the role of the nurse practitioner in Primary Care and has published and presented at conferences on the role of the nurse practitioner.
