Abbey Road Surgery - Disruption

Posted on Friday 20th May 2016

Patients at Abbey Road Surgery in Barrow may face disruption to some appointments next week.

The surgery will lose access to some of its consulting rooms following an inspection of the building, which identified that urgent repairs are required.

This means some patients will have appointments with their own GP, but they will take place at the Bridgegate Medical Centre on Winchester Street.

Abbey Road Surgery Practice Manager, Janet May, said: “Some of our patients may have to be seen at Bridgegate Medical Centre as we will lose access to two of our consulting rooms. Patients will be seen by their own doctor, and we are contacting all of our patients who are directly affected.

“Patients should still contact the surgery on our usual numbers for future appointments or other enquiries.”

Structural engineers inspected part of the building yesterday, but say more inspection work is required. It is likely that work will need to be carried out on the building and the Practice team are looking for a longer term solution while repairs to the building take place.

Patients who are affected will be contacted by the surgery.

Appointments, enquiries and repeat prescriptions should still go through the main switchboard on 01229 821 599

There will be a further update early next week.
