Plan ahead with your repeat prescriptions this festive season

Posted on Monday 18th December 2017

As the festive season draws nearer people living in Cumbria are urged to ensure they have necessary medicines to hand.

GPs are reminding patients to make sure they are prepared and arrange repeat prescriptions to last until the first week of January and making sure that their medicine cabinets are fully stocked.

NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has also published all pharmacist opening times in Cumbria over the festive period. Practices need time to prepare prescriptions so patients can help by not leaving until the last minute.

NHS North Cumbria CCG’s Clinical Lead for Children Dr Amanda Boardman said:

“We don’t want people to forget about their health with the busy build up to Christmas. Patients need to consider whether they need a repeat prescription, and if they do, make arrangements to collect it as soon as possible.

"People are also recommended to make sure their medicine cabinet is well stocked with over the counter remedies to ease the symptoms of common winter illnesses.

“The usual winter illnesses can make you feel unwell, but often there is very little a doctor can do and it is much better to have to hand a stock of pain killers and other medicines to ease the symptoms. You can look after yourself by making sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids.”

Patients are also reminded that your local pharmacy is a valuable resource for you and your family with medicine for minor ailments or illnesses and help and advice if you run out of any prescribed medication.

Pharmacy opening times for Cumbria over Christmas and New Year are available on the NHS North Cumbria CCG website at:
